Adderstrike paced nervously between the Twin Trees. It was their meeting spot and he was hoping Heathercloud would arrive soon. He desperately needed to talk about what had happened between him and his apprentice. He had attacked his own apprentice over a few ill placed comments. The thought brought a sick feeling to him. He was turning into Quickstep faster than he would've thought possible. He sighed, stopped his pacing to plop onto the ground moodily. How could he tell Heathercloud about what had happened either? Would she help ease the burden he felt or would she report it all the Brightstar? So many doubts raced around his head it was hard to think straight. After a few more moments of tortured contemplation, the warrior rose to his paws once more, glancing up into the treetops far above. It never hurt to get some hunting done. With quick, practiced movements, the warrior leaped onto the trunk of the first tree and began to climb. It was a skill his older brother had taught him when they were still close as apprentices. The thought brought back painful memories that were quickly forced from his mind as he reached a thick branch. Adderstrike crouched low on the tree's protruding arm, eyes scanning both the ground and the other nearby branches. Hearing and seeing nothing, the warrior relaxed his tense position, tail falling off the side of the branch as he lay down to wait for the medicine cat. Heathercloud Heather cloud has taken a little bit before she could leave camp, knowing she has to give it time for Adderstrike to go first before she could follow. It would be too obvious if she had gone with him too quickly that something was up. It took every ounce of her strength sometimes when she saw him not to say something or show affection like warriors could. Even Brightstar could have the chance at a mate despite her leadership role which made Heathecloud somewhat regret her decision to not have been made a warrior instead. But she knew where her calling had lied and now she was paying the price for it. She had fallen in love with one of the warriors, if by accident. It had been sudden and had not been going on long but she hadn't been able to refuse Adderstrike approaching her about being mates and now here they were. Sadly, their meetings had to be in secret since it was still forbidden for medicine cats to have a mate, much less kits. After she had checked on cats who had been injured, including Bramblepas who still was healing from his neck wound she had finally been able to slip out. Of course, she could easily lie she had been looking for herbs or stretching her legs since even a medicine cat needed their space and exercise from time to time. She was cautious though, taking pauses to check to make sure no one else was following her, especially Jayclaw. Her brother she knew could be protective and often was the one who volunteered to watch out for her when she looked for herbs. But with no signs of him or patrols she finally sprinted the final distance to the Twin Trees, their usual meeting spot. Adderstrike's scent was strong here but she couldn't see the tom. Had the dappled warrior gotten fed up with waiting? She checked around once more, but his scent still was there and she finally caught it on one of the trees. She craned her neck for a moment to see until she finally could make out a familiar colored tail. " Adderstrike! Adderstrike, it's me!" The marbles bengal called up to him, casting a nervous gaze over her shoulder since she was always worried someone might see them. "Adderstrike! Adderstrike, it's me!"
It felt as though his heart had skipped a beat at the familiar voice. Peering over the edge of the branch, he caught sight of her standing at the base of the tree. She glanced back anxiously after calling his name, as though afraid someone would hear. The thought sent a ripple of fear down the warrior's spine. If they were caught... He quickly shoved the horrible thought aside and stood, tail giving a flick for balance. Adderstrike jumped from the branch, landing beside Heathercloud with a muffled thump. He gave her a small smile, his normally cold heart softening slightly. "What are you so worried about? No one is on patrol over here." He gave her a devilish grin before adding, "we should be completely alone." Hesitance took hold of the dappled warrior, his tail flicking uncertainly as he took a step closer. Guilt and fear chased themselves around the warrior's mind until he wasn't sure what to do. Guilt that they shouldn't be meeting and fear of rejection. After a moments hesitation, the warrior twined his tail with Heathercloud's head tilted slightly in a question. "How are you?" He asked softly, breathing in the scent of herbs that collected on her pelt.

Heathercloud Despite Adderstrike's usual words and charming, devilish grin that tried to reassure her the young medicine cat couldn't help being worried. They were breaking the Warrior Code their ancestors had set down for generations and had been readopted by the newer clans and she knew Starclan would be watching. None of them had spoken to her recently or made a sign they were angry. But they could see, they would know, and the two living cats knew all too well. But it was the fact that they could possibly be caught that gave a kind of unexpected thrill to the whole forbidden romance between them. " Even so, you know I always worry. I don't want to jeopardize anything for either of us." Heathercloud said, giving a faint smile and trying to give off a purr but it was weak. There would always be a part of her that felt like they would be caught and would be in trouble as a result. Though she too pushed this to the back of her mind knowing she couldn't let it ruin this moment, a moment that was rare and fleeting. Her purr got louder then as she twined her tail with his and pressed her cheek against his in affection. " I'm...alright I suppose. A bit more busy since that skirmish with Sunclan." She answered him, glancing at his own wounds for a moment but her eyes caught something different. Some of those wounds were fresh, recently even. It was then she recalled Bramblepaw's story he had told them causing her to quickly look at Adderstrike with a worried gaze. " But what about you? Bramblepaw told us about that rogue you two encountered. But you didn't come see me for wounds, so I assumed you didn't get nearly as hurt." Heathercloud asked, her concern showing in her eyes. What she didn't know was that Adderstrike was fixing to confess the opposite. Tags: Brightstar Notes: Time for the truth? XD

"Even so, you know I always worry. I don't want to jeopardize anything for either of us."
The Dappled warrior felt a spark of pure joy light in his chest as she pressed her cheek to him affectionately. It was moments like these that really struck a cord with the warrior. They were robbed of a normal life, to be able to display affection within the clan, all because of a simple title on Heatercloud's part. It was ridiculous a surge of rage flashed through him at the thought. Still, he would rather share these stolen moments with her than all the time in the world with another cat. He nuzzled her neck briefly, relishing the delicate scent he had come to love when she spoke again, "I'm...alright I suppose. A bit more busy since that skirmish with Sunclan." He took his head away, nodding agreeably at the statement. It had been a rough time for most of the clan with the recent loose to Sunclan. Shame burned inside him every time he thought about. But her next words instantly cooled the feeling."But what about you? Bramblepaw told us about that rogue you two encountered. But you didn't come see me for wounds, so I assumed you didn't get nearly as hurt."
Adderstrike felt sickened as she swept her keen gaze over his torn pelt. Her concern and obvious worry hurt him more than the wounds. "I'm fine, really. It was only a small scuffle. The rogue is worse off." The lie chewed at him like a living thing, refusing to let go, no matter what he did. He turned his head away to look away at the other tree, his tail unconsciously untwining from Heathercloud's. Fear of what she would think if he told the truth clouded his mind as he looked at the tree. Would she tell the clan? Would she leave him? He sighed and turned back to face her with a slight shake of his head. He couldn't just lie to her like this. She deserved to know the truth even if it destroyed him. After all, it was his fault in the first place. "Bramblepaw wasn't entirely truthful with you.."Addressed: Heathercloud (@tundra) Mentioned: Bramblepaw Notes: Confession time

Heathercloud Though the she-cat initially showed relief that the rogue was gone and maybe with some wounds to remember Moorclan by she soon became confused. Adderstrike not only looked away from her but also unwound their tails. He never did that. In fact, between the two he always seemed to enjoy their secret meetings and was the one who helped put her at ease that they would never truly be caught. And most times she could easily say Adderstrike was helping her to collect herbs. But this was different, unusual even for the dappled warrior. " Adderstrike?" She asked with the concern returning as he finally seemed to turn to her. Was that sadness in his eyes and maybe even worry? Now he was scaring her, a part of the medicine cat beginning to feel that maybe he was growing concerned for their meetings and no longer wanted to meet. If that was the case she would be sad and heart broken but would understand his reasons. They were risking so much being together, more so if she wound up expecting kits which she often tried to avoid happening. She even mentally prepared herself for the possible inevitable words. He didn't want to be mates, didn't want to be together because it was too much risk, their positions should come first, something along those lines. Heathercloud was sterling herself, her worried gaze becoming attentive and ready...until he spoke those next words. The she-cat was floored by this confession. Bramblepaw had lied about the wounds? But why? At first she was left there with deep puzzlement and confusion since it didn't register in her brain what he really meant. Then it began to sink in, the marbled bengal seeming to look past the older cat before her as if imagining the rogue replaced with mentor and apprentice getting in their own spat. The wounds, each one she imagined their angles, teeth, claws, everything from her inspections of both toms. Shock showed as she looked back at Adderstrike, " Adderstrike I know that can't be on purpose. You and Bramblepaw...you're not bad cats. I've known you two long enough to know that much, surely there has to have been something more." Heathercloud insisted, hoping she was right and that maybe there was something neither of them was telling them or Adderstrike was hiding something from her. " If it's just you, you know you can tell me Adderstrike. Nothing will change if you do." She tried to assure him, giving him a lick over one ear in a soothing manner and encouraging him to tell her. Adderstrike shifted nervously, looking down at his paws as he contemplated his next move. A flicker of regret at telling her ran through him but he forced himself to look up and meet her eyes. But how could he tell her he had attacked his own apprentice? The worry in her eyes made him move to stand beside her again, twining his tail back with hers. He had to trust her, it was the only way this secret relationship would work out. If they couldn't even trust one another, what did they have?
"It-It was me... I attacked Bramblepaw and gave him those wounds and he gave me these," he paused briefly and turned his eyes to hers, silently begging her to understand. "I can't say it was an accident, but I didn't mean to take it that far. I didn't want him to get hurt. I was just so angry..." He trailed off, lowering his head unhappily and breaking there eye contact as he awaited her response.

Heathercloud Watching him move back beside her, Heathercloud didnβt hesitate to entwin their tails, ears perked forward to listen. Once more shock showed in her eyes that he attacked his apprentice on purpose, their training getting out of hand from Adderstrikeβs anger. She knew the dappled warrior could have a temper and sometimes showed a cold side but she hardly was struck with him letting that anger boil over into his duties. Only thing was she never knew where a lot of his anger came from. She didnβt know his full story as a lot of what happened to him was when she was just born or still a kit and an apprentice. But she pressed her head into his cheek gently, a gesture of comfort as she pressed her side against his. β Adderstrike you know how Bramblepaw is, he speaks his mind and quite frankly you two share more similarities in personality than you realize. But if something has been bothering you that long to boil over into training you need to talk with someone, someone you trust. That canβt doesnβt have to be me either.β The young she-cat told him, letting her gaze meet his to show sympathy and concern for him rather than appalment and disgust that he was expecting. Maybe she was being too trusting, too hopeful, but she wasnβt going to abandon her mate, even if it was already forbidden. Being true to who she was though, Heathercloud still tried to see the positive. β But if Bramblepaw still didnβt have some inkling of respect towards you he would have reported everything to Brightstar already.β She pointed out, the young Bengal not realizing how true she was that he had threatened it in fact. β He clearly respects you enough to lie about what happened, especially right to Brightstarβs face and itβs clear youβve taught him well if he still held his own against you.β She pointed out, hoping that maybe this might bring some light that the mentor-apprentice relationship wasnβt completely broken.
